Michael Cleon Harrell became the Executive
Director of Cookson Hills Community Action
Foundation, Inc., in January 2006. His passion for
Community Action has led to the additions of
several programs. He has implemented the
Bridges Out of Poverty Program, temporary
housing for burnout and tornado victims and
Choices General Store.
One of the most eye opening experience Mr.
Harrell has had as Executive Director was the
three days and nights he participated in the "Walk
in My Shoes" project. For those three days and
nights he actually walked the streets of Tahlequah
as a homeless person - no food or money.
Mr. Harrell is very supportive of the programs that
were already in place with Community Action. He
attends trainings and seminars to keep abreast of
the new regulations and grant opportunities.
Mr. Harrell's philosophy is that Community Action
should not be a "hand out" program but a "hand
up" program.
